Mr. FUNG studied
in St. Louis School from 1962 to 1970. He
then joined the University of Hong Kong, where
he graduated with a First Class Honour degree
of Bachelor of Social Sciences (in Economics
and Statistics) in 1973, and also obtained
a Master degree of Social Sciences (in Public
Administration) in 1983. He is also a Chartered
Statistician of the Royal Statistical Society
in the United Kingdom.
Mr FUNG began his career
in the Hong Kong civil service upon joining
the Census and Statistics Department as a
Statistician in 1974. He was appointed the
Commissioner for Census and Statistics in
2005.
Mr. FUNG has been an active
member in both the local and international
statistical communities. He was President
of the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS)
from 1994 to 1996, and is currently the Chairman
of the Examination Board of the HKSS for the
statistical professional examination. He was
awarded the Honorary Membership by the HKSS
in 2005. Mr. FUNG is an elected member of
the International Statistical Institute, and
member of the International Association of
Official Statistics and the International
Association of Survey Statisticians. He is
also the representative of East Asia serving
on the Steering Committee of the Partnership
in Statistics for Development in the 21st
Century.
Mr. FUNG has been
serving on various advisory committees of
faculties and departments of universities
in Hong Kong. Currently he chairs the Advisory
Committee of the Department of Management
Sciences of the City University of Hong Kong,
and is also an Adjunct Professor of the Applied
Mathematics Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University. He is also a member of the Hong
Kong Hang Seng Stock Index Advisory Committee.
